03/18/2012 - First Annual Alumni Baseball Game

As you know Marcus has had a rich baseball tradition for over 20 years. Now is your chance to connect with players from our past. It is with great pride that the Marcus Baseball Booster Club announces its first ever Alumni Game to be played on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Marauder Field.

This will be an exciting afternoon to come and see our former players with spectacular Marcus careers play our 2012 Varsity Team in a game for supremacy and bragging rights for this year! Playing for the Alumni will be: Matt Apfel, Chris Crowder, Justin Crowder, Jon Denton, Bryan Freed, Quinn Goldman, Scotty Jefferies, Bill Kelley, Ben Lord, Josh Morgan, Brian Peterson, Cory Press, Cole Standridge, Jamison Holt, and Dylan Blount.

This year’s alumni squad will prominently feature players from the 1999 graduating class. That said, Bill Freed is the elder statesman coming to us from the graduating class of 1989. The youngster of the group is Cole Standridge from the class of 2010.

Talent? How about the Crowder brothers?  Collectively they have had one of the most storied careers of any Marcus Baseball players in our history.  Justin Crowder (class of 1999) is the most prolific pitcher in Marcus history holding career leading records for Wins (23), Strikeouts (224), Shutouts (6), Complete Games (17), Games played (41) and Innings Pitched (192 1/3). Unlike most pitchers of today, Justin could also hit. Justin is tied with Brode Boyd for the most Hits (104), second to Body in Doubles (23), and third in RBI (73). Like his brother Chris Crowder (class of 2000) could hit the cover off the baseball. Chris is third in career Hits (101), third in Doubles (22) and third in Runs Scored (80).

The Fire Pit will be stoked, hot dogs, earl wraps and hamburgers ready. The weather will hopefully cooperate. It should be a great afternoon to see our current squad, but, more importantly honor the former Marcus Marauders of our past.

01/31/2012 - Play Ball !!

With the winter months soon behind us, the 2012 baseball season is set to begin.  While the last few years have brought about many changes for Marcus Baseball, this year holds no surprises.

We are entering our second year in District 8 5A.  Last year, district games rarely failed to provide excitement with many games decided by a single run.  This year we can expect much of the same as we face some of the best talent in the state of Texas.  The move to BBCOR bats has certainly changed the game as well increasing the probability that most games will be decided by just a few runs.  So take your blood pressure medication, don your spirit wear, and come to the ballpark prepared to make some noise in support of our Marcus Marauders.

In his second year as Varsity Head Coach and third year with our team, Dustin Sykora is charged with leading this group of talented players.  Once again it is our pleasure to have Coach Sykora and his wife Fallin as part of our program.

In fact the entire coaching staff from last year is returning.  Kevin Williamson brings his many years of experience with him as the Varsity Assistant and Pitching Coach.  Ian Miles also returns as the Junior Varsity Coach as well as Robbie Waters to lead our Freshman team.  Josh Fuel enters his eighth year with Marcus Baseball as the Freshman Assistant Coach.

Expectations are very high for our teams this year.  Our Varsity team is lead by over a dozen seniors with many returning starters from last year.  The Junior Varsity team is loaded with talented players anxious for their opportunity.  And our Freshman team boasts the best talent of any class in recent memory.

Countless volunteer hours have contributed to making our facility one of the best in the area.  With the support of the coaching staff, LISD, and the Booster Club, we will continue to make the experience for our players and fans exceptional both on and off the field.  As we enter our third year at this new facility, you can easily look around and see evidence of the support we receive from our community and Boosters.

The success of Marcus Baseball and the Booster Club depends on a TEAM effort.  While success on the field is made up of many individual performances, the game cannot be won by one or even a few players.  Winning consistently requires every player on the team contribute at a high level all the time.  The success of our Booster Club is based on the same philosophy.  Volunteers with many different talents, contributing consistently for the entire year, make the experience for our players, coaches, parents, and fans memorable.  If you haven't already, find a way to plug in to our Marcus Baseball family to ensure we continue to grow and improve for years to come.

We look forward to seeing you at the ballpark this year.  Now it's time to play some baseball.

Adrian Lumpp

2011-12 President, Marcus Baseball Booster Club

01/08/2012 - Zimbabwe Baseball Equipment Drive

Marcus Baseball and numerous other Texas High School Baseball programs are teaming up to collect baseball equipment that will be sent to the Zimbabwe Baseball Association in Africa. The goal is to collect 2500 cu.ft. of baseball equipment to fill a shipping container. They have currently collected 1500 cu.ft of equipment but too much of it is clothing. They are in desperate need of gloves, bats, balls, helmets, and catcher's gear (for ages 12 and up - no tee ball or under 12 items please). Leather Gloves are the #1 item needed.

Please send any old baseball equipment to Coach Sykora by Wednesday of this week. Those wanting to donate any items may bring them to the Marcus Baseball Field or email Coach Sykora at sykorad(at)lisd.net so that he can arrange to collect the items from you. The items will be taken to Coach Bart Bratcher - Head Coach at Round Rock Westwood HS this Thursday as coaches from across the state meet at their annual Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Clinic in Waco.

Thanks for all of your support to this cause. If you are needing any additional information about this Equipment Drive please visit www.jet-baseball.org.

11/16/2011 - Moving on to the Next Level

Over the years, Marcus Baseball has promoted many players to the college ranks.  With one of the largest senior classes in recent memory, this year's team will likely produce many new additions to the list.

Colin Poche (LHP) is the first of the graduating class of 2012 to announce his commitment.  Colin signed his Letter of Intent to play for the University of Arkansas next Fall.

Brandon Courville (RHP) has also signed to play for Midland College next season.

Congratualtions to Colin and Brandon.

02/28/2011 - LISD Athletic Passes

The LISD Athletic Department sells All-Sports Athletic Passes which, for $30, allows you cashless entry to sporting events at all LISD venues. That means you can purchase a pass and attend any Varsity, JV or Freshman baseball game at any LISD school for a punch of the card. The passes are accepted at all LISD athletic events except varsity football, and they do not expire.

Passes have 15 punches, and are available in the front office of Marcus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and at the Lewisville ISD Athletic Office at 1096 W. Main Street in Lewisville.
